Coalition Update – COVID-19 is Expanding the Achievement Gap of Minnesota’s Students

Hello Our Children Coalition Members,

We sincerely hope you and your families are staying safe during these uncertain times due to COVID-19.

With our new COVID-19 realities in mind, we continue to develop our legislative and grassroots efforts to get a constitutional amendment on the ballot and as soon as it’s safe for all of us to return to a healthy society.

Although we’re unable to advocate for our children in person, Our Children will continue to be a resource for you while we reevaluate the coalition’s path forward.

In case you missed it, the Pioneer Press had an article this weekend on how a widening achievement gap due to COVID-19 realities with distance learning. The article highlights issues with the achievement gap, attendance numbers, access to reliable internet and broadband, and how our vulnerable students are being left behind.

Now, more than ever, it’s important we provide more support and resources for our public education students. We cannot come back to an education system with even more students falling through the cracks.

All of us from the Our Children team wish you and your families continued health, safety, and strength!
