ICYMI: Our Children MN Announces New Board Members, Unveils Spoken Word Art
ST. PAUL, MINN. – Yesterday, the Page Amendment launched Week of Action with a kick-off event and a youth voices panel. The campaign announced two new Our Children MN board members, Dr. Bernadeia Johnson and Justice Kathleen Blatz, and unveiled spoken word art from local poet Michael Kleber-Diggs.
Dr. Johnson is the former superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools and is a professor at Minnesota State University Mankato. Justice Kathleen Blatz is the former Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court and is a former state representative. Blatz and Johnson join existing board members Mike McFadden, Michael Ciresi, and Louis King.
In partnership with the Page Amendment and Pollen Midwest, Kleber-Diggs wrote and then performed an original amendment-themed poem at yesterday’s youth voices panel. The poem is titled, “The Child Arrived” and can be read here or heard in full here. Kleber-Diggs is a poet, essayist, and literary critic. His debut poetry collection, Worldly Things, won the Max Ritvo Poetry Prize and will be published by Milkweed Editions in June 2021.
The Minneapolis Federal Reserve will host a community conversation tonight at 6 pm CST with Justice Alan Page and members of the Fridley, Mahtomedi, Roseville, and Mounds View school boards. Learn more and register here.
The Page Amendment Week of Action is March 22 – 26 and is the campaign’s official statewide education and advocacy week. A full agenda and more information on the Week of Action events can be found here. All events are virtual and free to the public.
